Here are five lures I keep on board for offshore trolling in The Bahamas, along with how I fish them for tuna, wahoo and mahi.

Simple Cedar Plugs

Cedar plugs are a staple in my spread when I’m trolling for tuna and wahoo. They’re about as simple as a lure gets, and I’ve had great results with them.

Silver High-Speed Trolling Lure

I like this one for its silver finish. It throws off a lot of flash, and I’ve seen it bring fish up into the spread. I’ve caught both tuna and mahi on it. For this setup, I prefer a single J hook over a treble.

Trolling Lure Pack

I reach for this pack when mahi are schooling in the pocket. I’ll fish these lures with bait or troll them naked. I run the brighter colors up top and put the darker ones on weighted lines.

Islander Lures

Islanders are easy to set up whether I’m starting with pre-rigged bait or rigging it myself. I like the way the weighted heads keep them dancing in the waves.

Sea Witch

A Sea Witch rigged with ballyhoo is one of my favorite setups for mahi-mahi. It’s a combination I keep coming back to.
